Baby Figment

The Story of Figment and Meryl

Figment was adopted by Meryl as a young foal. As she grew older (Figment) she began to test her position in life and like so many horses she managed to get the upper hand in her relationship with Meryl.

There was no question that she loved Meryl, but she had never learned to respect Meryl. Love and Respect are different. You can achieve both but it takes a great deal of time, effort, consistency and persistency. The issues with Meryl and Figure had escalated to the point that she was told by another trainer that she needed to part with this horse before she got hurt. At this point in time Figment and Meryl were only doing ground work. Figment was to young to be started under saddle. Meryl's concern, and love for Figment along with her unwillingness to part with her, led her to Inspiration Farm and Ron where they began a customized program for both Meryl and Figment.

Figments issues were related to Meryl's inability to be a strong leader for her horse. A leader that could make Figment feel secure and safe. In her desire for wanting to feel safe she had inappropriately taken the leadership role from Meryl. With the new program in place and with Meryl's desire to want to keep Figment a new relationship was started. New boundaries set and a consistent plan put into place. Meryl now proudly is no longer reliant on having anyone to handle Figment for her. She now is capable of self loading Figment and trucking to Inspiration Farm twice a week for lessons.
